An 1871 Farm

In 1871 there was a farm that belonged to billings and this was a big farm that had a lot of cows and other farm animals. It belong to three wealthy owners and until today it still stands although, as time went by the farm got old but it was restored to be a museum in 1890. The so called billings farm and museum was bought and now owned by a private organization or foundation founded by Mary F. and Laurence Rockfeller. It was a big farm to the point that they could not just destroy it, so they made it a museum at the same time its being run in conjunction with the three owners’ national historic park. It is now a historic place where families, students and other people come to visit just like you would visit a museum.

This farm has 70 registered jersey cows, sheep, horses, oxen and chicken. It happens to be a big farm and is open to the public to visit. It has 130 acres of grass for the cows, a cropland and meadows. This museum farm has its own kitchen garden with a lot of vegetables, herbs and even an apple orchard. Every day there is a program to be followed, one has to milk the cows in the afternoon, make sure all the animals are doing well, feeding them, and gardening where necessary. There are students who would like to come over for learning purposes and so this can be arranged seasonally. The fully equipped library is also opened to students and visitors who are around as long as it has been arranged on arrival there.   

 

All the history of the farm and what really happened at that farm is kept in 19 century barns for those who would like to get more information on what transpired at that farm. This farm was around for almost 2 centuries and belonged to three conservationists back then. The whole story has been captured in a half hour movie that can be shown on arrival there. The place has a shop, dairy bar and picnic area for visitors who tour the place.

This farm is a must see place and a trip to visit the place will leave you feeling like you actually lived around the same time it was started. It is a great educational site.
